Future H. Wayne Snyder: Distinguished Lecturer
Every Wednesday from 12:00-12:50 The Sigma Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma hosts an organizational meeting. During each of these meetings a guest speaker addresses the members of The Sigma Chapter as part of a series of guest lecturers. This series of chosen speakers is referred to as: The H. Wayne Snyder Distinguished Guest Lecturer Series. To get an idea of the caliber of individuals that speak at these Wednesday meetings, you may view our library of past speakers. Otherwise, lecturers tend to reside in the Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance, or Healthcare industries. Most speakers tend to have at least five years experience in their respective careers. Below is a short biography on this week's guest speaker.

Sheila Small is the Assistant Treasurer of Risk Management & Insurance for Verizon. Sheila is responsible for the corporation’s overall risk management program including oversight on their international operations. She is also President of two wholly owned captive insurance companies domiciled in Vermont. EIC, Verizon’s captive insurance company, received the Captive Insurance Company Association’s (CICA) outstanding captive of the year award in 2010. Prior to entering risk management in 1990, Ms. Small held various engineering and finance positions at Bell Atlantic and New Jersey Bell. Sheila Small was named 2003 Risk Manager of the Year by Business Insurance and RIMS. In 2008 Business Insurance selected Sheila as one of "25 Woman to Watch" in the insurance industry. Ms. Small is a frequent speaker at Risk Management conferences and is often quoted on emerging industry issues in Bloomberg and other insurance related publications. She’s authored several articles published in Business Insurance and Risk Management magazine. Ms. Small is also on ACE’s and Chartis’s national accounts advisory board.
